Preparation is one of the most important parts of any concrete job., one that we never skimp on. BC Concrete always takes the time to ensure that proper preparation is done on all our jobs. The first step in preparation is the removal of the top layer of soil. This top layer of soil is high in organic materials which tends to shift and settle over time. It also doesn’t compact well. This is the step where we set the correct elevation and grade so there is good drainage.
Next, the ground must be thoroughly compacted and a good base aggregate is added before being tamped again. The road base layer is typically several inches thick. Once this is complete, we have a good solid base to pour the concrete on.

We recommend that you wait at least seven days before driving normal passenger vehicles on your new driveway. After 7 days, the concrete has achieved 70% of its strength. Please allow more time before parking large trucks or RVs on your new driveway.
How long does it take for concrete to cure?
From freshly poured concrete to two days: Make sure you don’t walk on the concrete and do your best to keep animals and pets away from the new concrete.
Between 2 days and 7 days: It is ok for people and pets to walk on but nothing with wheels should be allowed on the concrete. No bicycles, scooters, and especially no cars.
After 7 days: The concrete has cured enough that cars and small trucks are fine to drive and park on the concrete. Avoid the edges of the concrete.
After 28 days: The concrete is almost fully cured. The driveway is now strong enough to support larger vehicles.
